Apple rejects the anti-DEI proposal.
Apple shareholders reject the proposal to cancel the company's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. The proposal, part of the anti-DEI movement under Trump's leadership, was overwhelmingly opposed by shareholders. Apple remains committed to DEI, with its CEO Tim Cook confirming that the company intends to continue its diversity efforts despite potential legal challenges.

Apple shareholders rejected the proposal to cancel the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in the company. The proposal was brought forth by the conservative think tank, National Center for Public Policy Research, as part of the anti-DEI movement under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
According to the proposal, Apple should reduce its diversity programs and align with Trump’s anti-DEI policies. In a shareholder vote held on Tuesday, 97% of the participants rejected the proposal. Apple management opposed the proposal, reaffirming its commitment to DEI programs.
Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously maintained a good relationship with Trump. When Trump was in office, this relationship benefited Apple by reducing tariffs on iPhones made in China. After a meeting between Cook and Trump last week, Apple announced plans to invest $500 billion in the U.S. and create 20,000 jobs in the next five years. Prior to Apple, a similar anti-DEI proposal was presented at Costco's annual meeting, but Costco also rejected it. Companies view diversity policies as necessary for business success.
Stephen Padfield, a representative of the National Center for Public Policy Research, stated, “Forced diversity is not good for business.” He suggested that Apple should adjust its DEI policies according to court rulings and warned that DEI programs could lead to legal issues in the future.
Florida Attorney General James Utmeier recently filed a federal lawsuit against Target, accusing the company of making flawed decisions and alienating customers due to its DEI policies. Analysts believe Apple may also need to consider legal adjustments. Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “We want to continue our company culture,” but acknowledged that some adjustments to DEI programs may be necessary due to legal changes.
One-third of Apple employees are white or Asian, and nearly two-thirds are male. This trend is also observed in other tech companies. While some companies are making efforts to increase diversity in the tech industry, there are indications that certain organizations might reduce their DEI programs.
